Where the Heck have I been?

I have been MIA for the last 2 weeks.  Thank you to those who noticed and missed me.  I went off in crafty creative land and am just now resurfacing.  I have been having a lot of fun, but I have been like a crazy lady lately.  I will update you on my adventures later but for now...

I won't bog you down with lots of words, I will just show you a few of the things that I have been doing.

Artsy Fartsy: Flower Bands

I have been wanting to make these little (or big, however you look at it) headbands for my girls for some time now.  I finally got my butt in gear and made some.  This one was super easy so I thought I would show how I made it.  Here are my artsy fartsy flower bands:

How I did it...

 The supplies:  Scissors, a flower, ribbon, hot glue gun, pliers, Fray Check, alligator hair clip, and a stretchy head band (not shown, see it in the picture above)

Cut the ribbon to size so it fits all the way around the clip.  Apply the Fray Check to the ribbon so the ends do not fray. 

 Start by hot gluing the ribbon to the inside of the clip

 Wrap the ribbon all the way around the clip. (this helps not pull the hair on your little one's head)

 While the clip is setting up from the glue, cut the stem off of  your flower.  

 I opted to take the base off of the flower too so that I could glue the flower as close to the clip as possible.

 Use the inside part of your pliers to cut the rest of the stem off right next to the petals.

 Hot glue the petal layers together and then hot glue it to the clip.

 Clip the flower to your stretchy band.  

 Pretty girls!

 hmm, what is that on sissy's head?  I think I will pull on it.

 I suppose it could be a neck flower too.

One of my many craft projects down!  Next time I think I will add some sparkle.

Delighted

Yesterday, I was taking the kiddos over to Granny and Grandpa's to have dinner and to visit with some friends that were in town visiting from Alaska.  On our way, my son was jibber jabbing the whole way and something he said caught my attention.  He said, "momma I am DELIGHTED that we are going to Granny and Grandpa's house."   Delighted.  What a word.  Two things came to mind at the moment.  One was, what is a four-year-old using the word delighted?  And two, what was even crazier was that earlier in the day I had been looking up that word.  Thinking about that word.  Researching that word, delighted.  Being highly pleased.  

Are you delighted in anything?

Artsy Fartsy: Pots

I know I have been on a roll lately with this artsy fartsy stuff.  My hubby is probably saying, I wish she would find time to do the dishes.  


So I have been working on painting my terra cotta pots.  I had purchased a plain terra cotta pot from the nursery just own the street from us called Rosie's Gardens.  And was inspired by the painted pots and decided that I could paint my own.  So I did.  And here is the artsy fartsy proof.

First, I sprayed the pots with a spray bottle with a concrete stain.

First I used a color called patena.  AKA blue.

After letting that dry at least an hour.  Or in my case, a day.  I have limited time to do little projects with 3 kids and nap times only last so long.  Plus I had to get to those dishes ;-)

Then I sprayed a gray color on the pots.  Again allowing them to dry at least an hour. Or a couple of days ;-)

I decided it just wasn't enough.  I needed more on the pots.  So I painted some paisley and flowers on the pots using some stencils.

To finish them up, I sprayed them with a clear coat for a water-resistant finish.  And a little shine.

And walla!!  Artsy Fartsy Pots.  

I will post some pictures once I get some fun flowers in them!

Artsy Fartsy: Ribbon

What to do with a pile of ribbon that came on gifts for my baby girls?

Have an artsy fartsy time.  

I bought 2 scrapbook shadow box frames from Hobby Lobby.  And hot glued the ribbon to a piece of scrapbook paper.  Then shaped each of my baby girls names with some ribbon.  

And walla!! Artsy fartsy ribbon!!
