Today, I I have found random unknown plants growing up around our house. Since we are renting and this is the first spring we have been in this house, I have no idea what is going to come up from the ground. So I am hoping one of you can help me out.
Here is the first It reminds me of corn...
And the second: I'm at a loss...
Let me know what you think. When and if I get blooms I will let you know!
Every Friday is dedicated to what I find. I tend to do a lot of research on most big-ticket items before purchasing them. Anything from cameras, baby car seats, to vehicles. I also just wanted a place to share what I have found in my life. Welcome to Friday Finds.
The first one looks (to me) like what grew up when seed that had fallen from our birdfeeder had the chance to germinate, but the second one looks like Lily of the Valley to me! We have some in our front yard and I love it. But do be aware that every part of the plant is poisonous for consumption, so keep an eye on those kiddies! In the fall, Lily of the valley gets little red berries on it, which could be tempting to any kid. I'm not a botanist, but that's my take. I could be wrong. I am going to look at our plants when I get home this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteKendra. There is a bird feeder not too far from where the first plant is growing. Hmmm. Interesting! I was wondering if the second one was some sort of a lily. The yard here has not be taken care of. So we have all sorts of things growing everywhere. I have a very lonely rose in the middle of the back yard. Kinda random. It first reminded me of the song by Guns and Roses... Welcome to the Jungle.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd does look like it might be lilly of the valley especially since there is so much of it. On the first one...the second picture kind of looks like an iris...
ReplyDeleteNichole - I thought that it was an iris too, until dad came and said he didn't think so. Who knows. :-P
ReplyDeleteIris plants usually look more like a fan, not shooting out in all directions. And I plucked one of my own lily of the valley plants (there are heaps, so no big loss) and it does look a lot like your sample. I say wait and see what materializes! You can always pull it later if it turns out to be weeds. When our bird seed sprouted, it was when were away in Alaska and the neighbor kid who we hired to mow didn't mow it...I think he thought it was part of the landscaping. I should e-mail you a picture of the jungle we had in our back yard!
